All you need to know about getting married in Austria, or planning a wonderful honeymoon

It is possible for UK and EU Nationals, but who are not habitually-resident in Austria, to have a legally-binding wedding in the country. However, it can take anything between 4 to 6 weeks to get all the paperwork sorted. You do not need to stay in Austria for this whole period, but you do need to be on hand for various appointments, and sometimes, these are only available at relatively short notice, and both parties are required to attend.

If you are interested in investigating the options for getting married in Austria, then please visit the Contact Us page of the website to send us an e-mail outlining your plans and we will come back to you with suggestions, ideas, and most importantly, a summary of the legal requirements that you will be required to fulfil in order for your wedding to be recognised internationally. As is the case with most countries, it is the civil ceremony that is legally-binding. It is possible to arrange for your marriage to be blessed in church, but the church service alone is not in itself sufficient for the required formalities.
It is possible to organise various non-legally-binding ceremonies, such as a ‘renewal of vows’ in a whole variety of wonderfully romantic locations including churches, castles, mountain huts, on the ski slopes, in vineyards or beautiful lake-side gardens just to give you a few ideas. All are, of course, surrounded by Austria’s stunning scenery. We can assist you with the necessary organisation of all the arrangements.
Austria is a fantastic destination for honeymoons at any time of year. In winter, you can celebrate your marriage with a great ski holiday, staying in a variety of accommodation styles. We can normally persuade the hoteliers to make sure that you are spoilt rotten, and given various room upgrades and other honeymooner benefits.
In the summer months, you can look at different great honeymoon ideas, whether you are looking to be active walking or biking in the mountains, or looking for a more restful time, enjoying the lazing around by one of the many beautiful lakes, and just taking in the views.
Austria’s wonderful cities make for great honeymoon destinations too – full of romance and interest. We can also make them extra-special for you, for example, in Vienna or Salzburg with the addition of tickets for concerts or other events, or finding a selection of unique venues for meals just for the two of you. When have sorted out your travel and accommodation arrangements, we can focus on organising those ‘little extras’ that will make this a holiday to remember.
Whether getting married or honeymooning, the beautiful surroundings of the Austrian lakes, mountains, and cities couldn’t give you a more stunning backdrop in which to start your life in love together.
