Experience France - whether it's gallic charm or French flair, the country has everthing

We include a section about France on our Experience Austria Travel website not because we expect many of our clients to combine them into a twin-centre holiday, but simply becaause we get many requests for information and advice about the best ways of driving to Austria from the UK, and unless you try extremely hard, travelling through France for some part of your journey is inevitable.

For some clients, their primary interest is getting to their destination as quickly as possible, and it is certainly possible to set off from the Channel ports in France in the early hours and be in Austria in time for dinner. However, this does involve a lot of hard driving without much of a break except for the occasional coffee and unispiring service-station sandwich.

Whilst we recognise that many of our clients, especially those driving out to Austria to go skiing are under time pressure to get to their resort as quickly as possible, when time allows, we always suggest at least one overnight stop, ideally two, on the way out and back. This not only breaks the journey, but also makes the journey part of the holiday. Crossing the Channel through the Tunnel, popular stopping off points include Reims, Nancy, Strasbourg and Mulhouse, then through Switzerland and Germany eventually crossing into Austria around Bregenz.

For those people considering a trip to Austria by train, as many of our clients do, to avoid the hassle associated with flying, then there are some lovely routes that we can recommend travelling through Zurich or Munich, dependent on the destination that you are aiming for. However, all the best routes go via Paris, where there is a change of station, thus giving travellers the ideal opportunity to break their journey in the French capital.

Why not make your journey to Austria a real part of your holiday by breaking your trip in France. Let us help you with the best information and advice to plan your route.
